The client invited Aspera to submit a design proposal for two 2.5acre on Kitusuru Road. One of the plots contained their family home and a guest house whilst the other contained a small bungalow. The brief required a proposal that would preserve the existing main house, demolish the guest house and bungalow, and redevelop the plots to maximize their current commercial value taking into consideration the current statutory regulations. whilst optimizing the development potential of the entire plot under current statutory regulations. Aspera design proposed that the redevelopment be an exclusive gated community comprising of the preserved main house, with 7 luxury villas and a clubhouse. The development would be accessed via 2 separate wings with internal driveways on either side, that peel off into each of the demarcated half acre plots that the villas site.
The villas are arranged around a central green spine. The villa living spaces open onto expansive terraces and back garden which flow into the green spine which provides common recreational playgrounds and link to the clubhouse. After various design reiterations the client opted for a modern design style which seemed as a radical departure from the architecture of the original house. The modern style was favorable due to the open plan, large openings that connect the indoor and outdoor spaces as well as the roof terrace that also offers an expansive breakout and recreational space with panoramic views over the existing trees in the development. References to the modernist detailing are picked up in the articulation of the steel columns and the sensuous and tactile use of timber and plain dressed stone on the dominant white external walls.
